Report to:  School Principal

Coaching support provided by: Dean of Special Projects 

Employment Terms: 10-month position 

 

SUBSTITUTE TEACHER JOB SUMMARY:

The Substitute Teacher at LEEP Dual Language Academy supports the school by covering  for teachers who are absent. Substitute teachers can teach a full day in one classroom or various classes for teachers who are out for the day. Substitute teachers may also support long-term assignments in classrooms when teachers are on leave. 

 The Substitute teacher reports to the Dean of Specials Projects. The Substitute teacher  warmly, courteously, and effectively interacts with these parties, ensuring that their experience of the school is consistently positive. 

 

Essential functions of the Substitute Teacher job may include but are not limited to the following:  

 
  • Teach classes in elementary education, specials classes or small group interventions as needed
  • Follow absent teachers’ lesson plans
  • Collect data on student performance during the lesson
  • Provide detailed summaries of each class for the absent teacher
  • Create and maintain a respectful classroom learning environment in accordance with Responsive Classroom
  • Maintain recording systems as defined by the school, communicate with families as needed
  • Participate in professional development 
  • Support in classes when coverage is not needed
  • Provide lunch/recess support as needed
 

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS, ABILITY, AND QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED

  • Bachelor’s Degree required
  • At least 3 years of teaching experience in elementary school required
  • NYS Teaching Certification preferred, certification pathway required
  • Spanish and English speaking, reading, writing abilities required
  • Experience and comfort using Google Drive
  • Adaptable and flexible to a fast-paced, high-intensity environment
  • A positive, ‘roll up your sleeves’ attitude; self-reflective with the ability to implement feedback
  • Strong organizational and planning skills, and the ability to consistently meet deadlines
  • Excellent prioritization and multitasking skills

• The language of our school is Spanish. Maintaining the language in all aspects of the work is valued. 

• Work is generally confined to the school or campus, requiring those activities common to the environment. 

• Work requires sufficient mobility to patrol halls and school grounds, and to climb stairs in some buildings. 

• Lifting light objects may be necessary. 

• Operational duties such as arrival/dismissal duties & lunch/recess coverage duties will be required. 


Salary Range: $65,000-$75,000
